We strongly suggest you purchase travel insurance for your trip. Aside from medical care, travel insurance can protect you in the case of lost or stolen luggage, equipment, and personal effects, trip cancellation, personal liability, funeral expenses (we don't mean to sound morbid, but dying overseas can be very, very expensive), emergency dental treatment and evacuation back to your country of residence. All that being said, please read the policy carefully (especially the exclusions) to make sure that it covers what you will need, especially trip cancellation.

Strangely enough, St Lucia is the only country in the world named after a woman! The island was named by French colonists in the 1600s after St Lucy, the patron saint of the blind and those with eye problems.
70% of the island is covered in rain forests.
There are 180 species of birds on the island and scientists have found that 6 are endemic, making this a haven for bird lovers.
It was home to pirates! Not only was famed pirate, "Peg Leg" (Jambre De Bois, French for Wooden Leg), né François le Clerc, and his privateers some of the first Europeans to settle on St. Lucia, they also used the island's high vantage point on Pigeon Island to attack the Spanish ships in the mid 1500s. It’s been rumored that the pirate Blackbeard (Edward Teach) not only visited the island but buried a treasure in the southern town of Vieux Fort. Unfortunately, this has never been verified. According to legend, when asked about the location of his treasure Blackbeard stated, "that no-body but himself and the Devil, knew where it was".
St. Lucia has more Nobel Prize Laureate's per capita than anywhere else. The country boasts two winners of the esteemed Nobel prize including Sir Arthur Lewis who received the award for economics and Derek Walcott who won the prize for literature back in 1992.
